Waukee 61, Valley, W.D.M. 47

DES MOINES – Waukee wrapped up its deepest postseason run ever with a third-place finish on Friday, topping CIML rival Valley, West Des Moines in the Class 4A consolation game, 61-47. The Warriors (21-5) were led by 16 points from junior Noah Hart in their third matchup with Valley this season. The nearby squads split in the regular season, with Valley claiming a 61-56 home win in December and Waukee taking a 52-42 home win the next month.

Offense was tough to come by again at Wells Fargo Arena, as Valley (17-9) managed two points in the first quarter and just 10 in the fourth after scraping its way back into the game. Evan Obia led the Tigers with 11 points off the bench and senior Luke Sueppel added 10.

Waukee had never won a state tournament game prior to this week. Valley finished fourth for the second time in school history.
