DES MOINES – Aplington-Parkersburg earned its second ever third-place finish in Thursday afternoon’s Class 2A consolation game, pulling away from second-seeded Sheldon in the fourth quarter for a 65-52 win. The Orabs (22-5) led 46-44 after the third quarter, but the lead quickly slipped away as Aplington-Parkersburg’s pressure and perimeter shooting took over. The Falcons (25-2) hit nine 3-pointers and tallied 16 assists on 24 made field goals, led by 17 points and eight assists from Alec Oberhauser and 16 points and 10 boards by Carter Cuvelier. Aplington-Parkersburg also finished third in 1997 and was making its first tournament trip this week since finishing fourth in 2015.

Sheldon finished fourth in its fourth ever trip to the state tournament. Kyle Boerhave led the Orabs with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
